Amidst the harsh political and economic climate in Michigan there is incredible progressive work taking place all across the state. Unfortunately, our ability to move policy is hampered because we often do not have the opportunity to make the connections between our issues and nurture a common action agenda.

It is in this context, that Planned Parenthood is excited to work in conjunction with representatives from the environmental, civil rights, faith based, GLBT, education, labor, student, disability, health care reform, and human services communities to host and participate in the 2nd Annual Michigan Policy Summit.

This Summit will have four main objectives:

  1. To craft effective and progressive public policies
  2. Provide tangible skills for individuals and organizations
  3. Create new networks and cohesion amongst progressive activists
  4. We have one two dynamic keynote speakers in Jim Hightower and Amy Goodman.

Often times, progressive initiatives in Michigan are ignored because leaders claim that there is an undue strain on the budget or because of a loss of jobs, which leads them to question the efficacy of the progressive work being done in Michigan. Nevertheless, Michigan progressives continue to persevere in the worst state economy in the country. We must come together to collectively draft and pass sound public policy; which will create a blueprint for activists across the country to win on their issues. In the end, we seek to change policy conversations around progressive issues from "we would if we could" to "we will and we must."
