Planned Parenthood of Michigan (PPMI) has faced historic challenges since President Trump took office for the second time. Relentless attacks on federal funding streams, including Medicaid and Title X, have forced them to make difficult decisions and explore innovative ways to continue delivering care to communities that rely on them. As PPMI navigates this new funding landscape, state and local partnerships are becoming an increasingly important part of building sustainable solutions in our communities.
On August 13, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners approved up to $1.5 million in critical funding to support sexual and reproductive health care for Oakland County residents. The investment will help protect access to care at PPMI’s Ferndale health center through August 2028, benefiting patients in Oakland County and surrounding communities.
Here at PPAM, we are deeply grateful to Chair Woodward and the commissioners who voted to protect access to care. Their leadership demonstrates what is possible when elected officials prioritize the health and well-being of the communities they serve. But not every commissioner voted to make this critical investment. As we celebrate this important victory, we must also hold our elected leaders accountable for the decisions they make about access to sexual and reproductive health care.
