Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan Celebrates Defeat of Proposal 1

LANSING, MI — Today, Michigan voters rejected Proposal 1. If approved, the measure would have required the convening of a constitutional convention in Michigan, which abortion opponents could have leveraged to try to roll back the right to reproductive freedom in our state.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan President and CEO Paula Thornton Greear released the following statement in response:

“This is a tremendous victory for reproductive freedom. Anti-abortion politicians said the quiet part out loud on the campaign trail when they suggested using a constitutional convention to override the will of voters and roll back our right to make our own decisions about pregnancy free from political interference. Today, Michigan voters once again sent a definitive message that these fundamental rights are non-negotiable and they will vote down any measure that endangers them.”
