10 Goals for Planned Parenthood Activists in 2019

1. Find the birth control that’s right for you

It can take a few tries before you find the contraceptive method that works for your body and lifestyle, so don’t settle. Make 2019 the year you find your perfect match! Visit your local Planned Parenthood to discuss all your options. You can make an appointment by calling 1-800-230-7526 (PLAN) or schedule one online!

2. Get tested!

Are you sexually active? Then make sure to get tested in 2019! It’s quick, easy and will help keep you and your partner(s) healthy and safe. You can make an appointment by calling 1-800-230-7526 (PLAN) or schedule one online!

3. Take care of your mental health

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Make it a priority in 2019 by practicing self-care, ending toxic relationships, and talking to doctor or another mental health professional. Check out Healthline for resources and more information about mental health care.

4. Be a better ally

Start by reading the guide to allyship at www.guidetoallyship.com and recommitting to listening to and uplifting marginalized voices in 2019.

5. Volunteer with Planned Parenthood

Make new friends, serve your community and have blast volunteering with Planned Parenthood! Fill out an application on our website and we will contact you with volunteering opportunities in your area.

6. Attend a rally or other activist event

Our rights and access to health care are under attack. Stand up and make your voice heard by attending a rally or other activist event. You can find upcoming events on our Facebook page and the front page of our website.

7. Hold your elected officials accountable

Elected officials work for you! Hold them accountable by attending their coffee hours, town halls, and giving them a call when the issues you care about are up for a vote. Want us to contact you when reproductive rights or access to health care are under attack? Subscribe to our email action alert list!

8. Join a Readers Resist book club

Brush up on your activist literature and make new friends by joining a Readers Resist book club near you! We currently have book clubs running in Detroit and Grand Rapids. Want to start one in your area? Contact us at ppam@ppmi.org with the subject line “New Readers Resist Book Club in (your area).”

9. Share your story

Your voice and your story are powerful. By sharing it, you can make people feel less alone, help others understand your experience and perspective, put a face to policy issues, and even influence history! Visit the get involved page of our website to submit your story and join our storyteller program.

10. Run for local office

Take your activism to the next level by running for office in 2019! You can make a difference by serving as a school board member, county commissioner, or even mayor! Visit the Michigan Secretary of State website for more information about running for office.
