Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan Congratulates Eli Savit on Victory in Race for Michigan Attorney General
LANSING, MI — On Tuesday, Michigan voters elected Eli Savit as their next attorney general. Savit has been an unwavering champion for reproductive health care, including abortion. As Washtenaw County prosecutor, he refused to enforce Michigan’s abortion ban in the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Under his leadership, the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office has also worked to protect abortion access, including by calling on the Michigan Supreme Court to put Prop 3 on the ballot.
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan President and CEO Paula Thornton Greear released the following statement in response:
“Eli Savit has been a staunch defender of reproductive rights in Michigan, including abortion access, and we congratulate him on this victory. A state attorney general plays an essential role in protecting those rights and people’s ability to get the care they need. With Eli in office, we know we’ll have a trusted partner who will show up for Michiganders no matter what obstacles anti-abortion politicians throw our way. We look forward to working by his side to protect and expand access to sexual and reproductive health care.”
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan (PPAM) is the advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood in Michigan.
