LANSING, MI — On Tuesday, Michigan voters elected Winnie Brinks as their next lieutenant governor. During her time as Michigan Senate Majority Leader, Brinks has been a vocal champion of sexual and reproductive health care, helping to end the 1931 abortion ban and working to expand access.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan President and CEO Paula Thornton Greear released the following statement in response:

“Winnie Brinks has been a strong advocate for reproductive freedom throughout her career. As Senate Majority Leader, she made protecting access to sexual and reproductive health care a priority, and she brings that same commitment to the lieutenant governor’s office as the Trump administration works to cut off access to care. We are proud to congratulate Lieutenant Governor-elect Brinks and look forward to working by her side again to make sure people in Michigan can get the care they need.”
